Are Microdermabrasion Results Instant?

March 7, 2017

If you struggle with wrinkles, uneven skin tone, pigmentation issues, acne scars, or age spots, you may be the perfect candidate for microdermabrasion. This amazing procedure is a simple, non-invasive form of facial that rejuvenates your skin without any harsh chemicals or recovery down time afterwards. It can offer impressive results with minimal side effects.

What Is Microdermabrasion?

Unlike the harsher dermabrasian treatment for deeper skin problems, microdermabrasion is a great procedure for those with sensitive skin and minor skin problems. It is essentially a deep exfoliation treatment, using small aluminium oxide crystals to brush away dead skin and encourage the production of new skin cells, giving you a fresh, healthy glow. The new skin cells that are produced after microdermabasion should have higher levels of collagen and elastin, crucial components for a healthy complexion.

The microdermabrasion procedure is often referred to as a ‘lunch hour facial’ because it’s so quick and simple. The treatment usually lasts less than an hour, and the side effects are minimal, allowing you to head straight back to work after you’re done.

Who Are The Best Candidates For Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion works best for people with shallow facial lines, mild acne scarring, mild age spots, and light skin pigmentation problems. It works well on a wide range of skin tones, but may not suit those who have very deep wrinkles or sagging skin. These conditions may require a stronger and possibly more invasive procedure.

We don’t recommend that clients with severe acne in an active stage undergo microdermabrasion as it may inflame the acne more, but the treatment can work well for those who have scarring left from previous bouts of acne.

Is It Safe?

Microdermabrasion is a very safe and non-invasive treatment when carried out by a trained specialist. Most clients suffer no real side effects, aside from some skin sensitivity and pinkness after the procedure. This sensitivity shouldn’t last more than 24 hours, and moisturising cream will help your skin settle quickly after the treatment.

When Will You See Results?

You should see improvement in your skin after your first microdermabrasion treatment. Your skin should be brighter, healthier looking, softer, and smoother, thanks to the exfoliation and development of new skin cells. For some people, the results seen after one microdermabrasion treatment are enough to satisfy them, but lasting results are more likely to be achieved by multiple sessions. Coming in every few weeks for multiple treatments will give you longer lasting and more noticeable results.
