How do the Lasers work?
Lasers are precise instruments that can be adjusted to exact parameters to disable the hair follicle. Unlike painful hair-by-hair treatments like electrolysis, laser technology uses a wide beam that treats a larger area more comfortably, providing longer lasting results.

While there are many methods to eliminate unwanted hair, very few can eliminate hair regrowth while leaving the surrounding skin undamaged and photoepilation is quickly becoming the most popular. Lasers and light sources use the principle of selective photothermolysis to eliminate hair and its potential regrowth without damaging the surrounding skin. During a laser hair removal treatment, light passes through the skin and is absorbed by the melanin in the hair shaft. This absorption raises the temperature of the hair follicle and thermally destroys the cells responsible for regrowth.

Lightsheer™ Laser Treatment
The Lightsheer™ diode laser is a state-of-the-art system specially designed to remove unwanted hair faster, with less discomfort and more reliably than other methods.
The light emitted by the Lightsheer™ diode laser is well absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicles. During the procedure, the laser pulses for a fraction of a second, long enough to heat up the hair and significantly impede the follicle’s ability to re-grow. This process also treats numerous hair follicles simultaneously. Therefore, Lightsheer™ is appropriate for treating even the largest areas of the body quickly and effectively.
An important part of the procedure is the cooling of the skin. A special contact-
cooling hand piece allows your physician to treat even the most sensitive skin, including. It protects and cools the upper layer of the skin before, during and after each laser pulse while directing the laser energy to the hair root.
Technology in Use
HarmonyXL – To perform light-based hair removal with the HarmonyXL SHR handpiece, a large rectangular window emitting broad-spectrum light is applied to the surface of the skin. The energy travels harmlessly through the epidermis and dermis until it strikes the hair follicle, which contains a dense, melanin-rich hair shaft and bulb.The dark-coloured melanin absorbs the light and rises slowly in temperature, destroying the hair-producing cells surrounding the follicle. Because the heat is not sustained, however, no damage occurs outside the follicle area.
SopranoXL – uses 810-nm diode laser technology, the gold standard in laser hair removal since its introduction in 1998. Unlike earlier systems however, the SopranoXL energy penetrates deep into the dermis (where the hair follicle is located) with high average power and a rapid 10 pulse-per-second repetition rate.
CW Pulse™ – this technology allows homogeneous distribution and more effective fluence to be delivered with improved patient comfort. The unique pulse structure of SopranoXL incorporates two discrete pulses. The first is a preheated long pulse that safely heats the tissue; the second short pulse effectively destroys the hair follicle and its surrounding vasculature.

What can you expect when undergoing Laser Treatment?
The length of a laser treatment may last anywhere from a few minutes to an hour or more, depending on the size of the area being treated. It is important to know that the hairs in the active phase (referred to as anagen) are most affected by the laser. As all hairs are not in this phase at the same time, more than one treatment will be necessary to achieve the best result.
The laser treatment itself may cause some discomfort. Most patients tolerate the
procedure well, but because some areas of the body are more sensitive than others, topical anaesthesia can be an option.
The appearance of the treated area immediately following treatment will vary from patient to patient depending on the extent of the procedure and skin type. Side effects, if any, are minor and may include redness and swelling around the hair follicle, which is a sign that the follicle has responded to the treatment.
